This year’s scenario dealt with threats from a DDoS attack which attempts to bring down a website by flooding it with more traffic than it can handle.
The 2017 exercise was hosted by Singapore and saw the participation of 28 members of APCERT and a number of guests from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation – Computer Emergency Response Teams (OIC-CERT).
Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Hung said the drill was held in the northern, central and southern regions to help cyber security technicians practise cross-border computer emergency responses.
The event also intended to raise awareness among government agencies, enterprises and the community about cyber threats.
Currently Vietnam’s national cyber security response network consists of 124 member agencies with over 500 specialists.
Vietnam joined the 2017 APCERT drill with 200 delegates and technicians from more than 100 members of the network.
Under the coordination of VNCERT and its members, the network of technicians was able to prevent serious web attacks, share information and issue warnings about the incidents and malicious codes.
